Blackthorns Botanical Magic

Enter the Magical, Sacred World of Scent and Aroma
Smell. That’s right. Go ahead. Take a deep breath. I’ll wait. If you are breathing, you are alive; and if you can smell, then you can enhance that life you’re busy trying to live—no matter who you are.

This journey is yours for the taking, no magic wand needed! Aromatherapy and magic, one-stop shopping. Our sense of smell is the greatest sense, and even older than our sight. I’m Amy Blackthorn, witch, herbalist, martial artist, photographer, and your guide to the world of botanical magic.

Why botanical magic, you ask? Because by using our sense of smell, we can change our outlook, our mood, and even our dreams. What dreams would you like to fulfill?

People have been working with plants longer than we have had language. Whether or not you call yourself a witch; whether you have just purchased your first bottle of essential oil, or the local shop has you on speed dial; there is something in this book for you.

Four Myths of Essential Oils

Myth 1: Essential Oils Never Expire
There are very few things in nature that do not expire. (Honey might be the only one.) Essential oils are a product of nature, and the leaves, fruit, and bark that these oils are derived from will eventually decompose. While essential oils may have a longer shelf life than their carrier counterparts, they will expire eventually.

Myth 2: There’s Only One Right Way/Oil
All-or-nothing thinking serves the essential oil companies more than the consumers of these products. If companies can convince buyers that essential oils can only be used for one purpose, this will drive them to seek more of their products.

Myth 3: Just Put the Oil on the Bottom of Your Feet
If the aim is for the body to absorb the essential oils, your feet are the worst place to apply. The skin of the feet is thick and callused, making it much more difficult for the oils to absorb into the skin. Ideally, essential oils should only be applied to the feet if they are specifically being treated, such as for pain or cramping.

Myth 4: Essential Oils Are Only Dangerous If Ingested
The myth about essential oils only being dangerous if they’re consumed is alarming. Dermal application does carry risks. If used improperly, burns, rashes, and sensitivities can and do occur. Get trained. Listen to your body.

Here is the first contemporary guide to the transformative powers of essential oils for use in spellcraft and the cultivation of ritual power. From rose-scented rosaries to the lingering aroma of frankincense, and the cleansing energy of white sage, Amy Blackthorn-- the woman behind Blackthorn Hoodoo Blends --will take you on a journey beyond the soothing, healing power of scents into their hidden realms and their use in prayer, meditation, and shamanic journeying. One of the very first of its kind, this book includes:

The rich history and lore of scent-related magic
Over 135 essential oil recipes and craft projects
An explanation of how magical aromatherapy can enhance divination with tarot and runes
Practical information regarding the purchasing, blending, and storing of essential oils
